IT Governance

IT Governance is the discipline of applying defined practices to the management of information technology to improve investment performance. It applies to prioritization of new investments, maintenance of existing assets, and provisioning of services to the institution. The IT Governance standard implemented at UW Oshkosh in 2015 is based on the international “COBIT 5” standard published by ISACA (Information Systems Audit and Control Association) and used by IT auditors to evaluate IT investment management.

allocation of resources (financial, human, and tangible) in alignment with priorities

communicating with constituents to provide insight and clarity into decision making processes, investment status, and outcomes

Modeling on the COBIT 5 standard, effective IT Governance is realized at UW Oshkosh through:

  • Executive leadership setting strategic direction and priorities
  • Shared governance and constituent input informing leadership of operational needs
  • Policies and defined processes to guide activity
  • Administrative execution of governance functions

Resources and investments are aligned to institutional priorities and also serve unit priorities.

Constituent Experience

Constituents express overall satisfaction with IT service reliability and quality, and staff responsiveness.

Operational
Efficiency

IT enables efficiency across campus through technical innovations. IT Division maintains a high ratio of outputs to inputs.

Risk
Management

Institutional security and investment risks are managed to an acceptable level with appropriate tools and mitigation plans.
